Soda Blasting

There's A New Stripper In Town With A Familiar Name.

Sodium bicarbonate, otherwise known as Baking Soda, is a familiar age-old product that has been around for generations. There is probably an open box of sodium bicarbonate sitting in your refrigerator right now. We use it to clean our teeth, cure hangovers and upset stomachs, cook our bread, put out fires, clean battery cables and now strip our cars to bare metal.

This is one of the Friendliest and Versatile Blast Media used in today’s Market.

Similar in concept to sand blasting, we use compressed air to propel the Baking Soda to the surface for cleaning. The particles remove Paint or Dirt by releasing energy as the particles explode when pressure-driven into contact with the surface. The resulting energy disrupts the contaminant surface and blows it away, leaving the substrate completely unaffected.

Soda blasting is a process that can remove paint, grease and oil without damaging metal, glass, chrome or warp thin sheet metal.

After the clean-up, if there is any soda left behind it can be washed away with water.

PLEASE NOTE: Baking Soda is a soft media and although it will strip paint from the surface, it will not remove rust, only clean it. Crushed Glass is the only remedy for rust.

Walnut Shell Blasting

Walnut shell is an aggressive media that will remove paint or clean a surface.  It too, like Soda, does not mar the underlying metal surfaces.

Similar to Soda Blasting , the Walnut is propelled by compressed air, it works by knocking contaminates off the surface by abrasive force. But because the walnut shell is softer than the surface being blasted, it does not harm the underlying surface.

Walnut Shell is a Biodegradable Source for media blasting, making it a friendly source in Land Fills.

PLEASE NOTE: Walnut, like Soda Does not remove the rust, it only cleans it. Crushed Glass is the only remedy for rust.

Crushed Glass Blasting

Crushed Glass Blasting is the closest media to the old style “Sand blasting” that everyone knows.

At Dyer’s Soda Blasting, We use two types of glass, Course and Medium Grades.

The Course grade is able to remove heavily Scale Rust with less effort, making it great for heavy equipment and rusty projects.

While the Medium grade is perfect for Autos and Motorcycles, most find that its fine finish can be primed with minimal prepping.

PLEASE NOTE:  Although sandblasting is the only way to absolutely remove rust, there is always a concern of the metal warping due to the heat buildup on the surface. The thickness of the metal will determine the use of Medias used. We always take every precaution to avoid warping by using the finest grit available to us.
